Tolstoy says art is not something by which you use to communicate but to transmit, transmit the feelings and thoughts one has when creating a masterpiece and seeing all of the work you've done. Art creates a Union from man to man without words but with paints and movements on a surface. A mans understanding of art expresses the amount of emotion and understanding one has for the one who painted it. To truly express your surroundings and mental thoughts while painting and seeing it expressed on the canvas is when one has created art. Art should keep the viewers feeling what you felt and have them admire it in close range that they know what it means. If the art keeps them captivated then by all means it is art. If man were to not understand the expression in art, man would still be hostile to another for they would not know how to convey their own emotions and speech, it would be a distant relationship with everyone. Art connects and it keeps it that way.
